In a world where certain professions are often labeled as “men-only,” Madam Rita Osei stands tall, proving that determination and hard work know no gender. As the first and only female car spray shop owner in Koforidua, her story is one of grit, perseverance, and breaking barriers.

Today was one for the books! After a long day at work, I rushed over to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, eager to witness the incredible feat of Lance Corporal Pabby Saraphina.

The first time I shared this story was during my reflective practice program in my final year at the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana, in the year 2014, during my bachelor’s degree. Sharing it now feels just as significant as it did then.

During my days as a visual art student at Ghanass (Ghana Senior High School), I struggled to grasp the concept of Art History. Prehistoric art was manageable, Egyptian art felt distant, and Greek art was even more difficult to connect with.

I am proud to introduce Princess Abbey, a 13-year-old Grade 10 (SHS 1) Visual Arts student at Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua. I have had the privilege of mentoring her from Grade 7 to now, and she is already emerging as a young voice for positive change through her art.

Ever since I began my teaching journey, one thing has remained constant—my passion for guiding my students beyond the classroom. I believe education is more than just textbooks and exams; it’s about shaping mindsets, building character, and inspiring dreams.

It was a sleepy afternoon — the kind where the sun made the classroom feel heavier than usual. Our Agricultural Science teacher, Mr. Amoako, had come in on time as always. He stood at the front, teaching with his usual seriousness.
But honestly, I wasn’t really there.
